                                        Dribble from Tribble

What an interesting season 2003 ended up being. Mother Nature just didn’t want to motocross this year. She must not have trained very well in the off season last year. I hope she will be ready for plenty of racing in 2004.

We have gone through some difficulties identifying and training a permanent staff this year. Our goal at VMP is, every person attending one of our events will have a fun, fair and safe experience. We will run an efficient sign-up, provide a perfectly prepped track, maintain the track conditions during the event, provide competent flagging and fair officiating at every event. To achieve that goal, I have recruited several committed people for 2004 who have years of District 13 racing experience.

Congratulations to all the riders who have done well this year. In any sport, the primary reason for participating is recreation. It seems that in motocross, we start out participating in the sport for recreational reasons but it does not take long for the sport to take on something more. Those of us that stay with the sport, become somewhat consumed with the activity. What a great sport it is. I cannot think of another sport where someone can compete on a one-to-many basis, where skill and conditioning determine the winner, and produces an adrenaline rush that even the most extreme person can enjoy. Couple that with the great people and families in the sport, its no wonder we become so passionate about motocross racing.

There have been a few isolated incidents this year that have shed some gray light on our sport’s image. I hope those were extreme cases that won’t happen in the future. Please keep in mind that we all are at the events out of the love for the sport. Competition is a key driver for being at the races. I would like to ask everyone in District 13 to keep in remember that we are all here to perform as well as we can, individually, but more importantly, we are a group of friends and families. That’s what makes local motocross racing the sport it is.

Thank you all for the support and patience you have shown Virginia Motorsports Park Motocross Racing. We have made it through our first full season and have learned a lot. I am personally committed to providing you with the best-run motocross track in the 2004 season. See you at the Banquet.
